ABOUT US

The Big Picture

mama2mama is for mamas, by mamas and about mamas.

Our goal is to offer support and information to women (and their families) during the postpartum period.

Our goal is also to create greater awareness about what the postpartum period is really like.

Since everybody on the planet is either a mama or a child of a mama, our greater goal is to foster health and harmony on a global basis.

We consider motherhood to be a primary and valuable role in society. We believe that all mothers are heroes. By celebrating mothers and by offering real support and awareness, we believe that our community—local and global—will become a better place to live for everyone.

Our mission is to raise awareness about the postpartum experience and to support all postpartum mothers to discover their own unique paths to balance and well-being.

The Details

mama2mama was conceived during a conversation between 2 mamas.

Both had quietly struggled through the postpartum period in separate and highly individual ways. Both navigated those turbulent waters and found their own ways to the other side. Both kept quiet about the struggle, until one day, in a café, they began to talk openly about it.

These mamas gained insight, inspiration and perspective from this conversation, and gradually came to realize that this was a conversation that needed to be had; that many, many mamas had something to add to it.

So the 2 mamas started to speak openly and casually about their postpartum experiences. The result amazed them both. Virtually EVERY mama who listened had something to add. Suddenly, other mamas were agreeing, empathizing and sharing their own unique stories of struggle. Everywhere that women gathered, the 2 mamas just began to share. Other mamas everywhere entered the conversation. Literally, the energy gathered; phone calls, private talks and group discussions just began to happen. The next step revealed itself.

The first meeting was an informal gathering at a restaurant, on November 1st, 2006. 7 mamas showed up, with babies, bleary eyes, leaking breasts and welcoming smiles.

mama2mama was born that day.
